Becoming a Landlord

Two Projects Using Recycled Materials Found Around The Home

Recycling benefits the environment by cutting down on the amount of trash dumped in landfills, but it can also be a fun way to re-use items in your home. There are many different tutorials you can follow to make unique and beautiful decorations for your house by using materials such as plastic bottles, coffee cans, and more. Here are a few projects you can do to turn trash into treasure.

Clothespin Coaster

Materials needed:

  • Clothespins
  • Glue
  • Paint (optional)

If you use wooden clothespins to hang your laundry, you know they have a tendency to fall apart after awhile. Instead of throwing them away, you can use them to make cute little coaster. Simply take the clothespin, remove the metal clip, and arrange the clothespins snugly together side by side. Apply a thin layer of glue between the pieces and let them dry. Take another piece of a clothespin and glue it to one of the clothespins and repeat the process until you have formed a circle the size of the coaster you want. If you want to add some color to the project, you can paint them.

Glass Jar Organizers

Materials needed:

  • Glass jars
  • Glue

Glass jars can make great organizers and you won't have to worry about broken glass in your trash from throwing them away. For this project, you can use any size jars that you have on hand as long as they have a lid that fits on them. You will take the lid of the jar you want to use, apply a thick layer of glue to the top of it and stick it to the bottom of a shelf that you want to attach the jar to. Hold the jar lid in place until it dries. The drying time will vary based on the product and will be listed on the glue container. Once the glue on the lid is dry, you can screw the jar on. It will hang from the bottom of the shelf and create a fun storage place for you. You can arrange the jars in a line or any pattern you want. You can also take old bits of paper or cloth and glue it to the inside of the jar to brighten up the entire project.
